Won’t allow Jayasuriya to play in Chennai - Seeman

The Indian pro-LTTE group ‘Naam Tamilar Iyakkam’ says that they will not allow Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya to play in the corporate cricket tournament final at Mayajaal ground in Chennai. The organization threatened that they will surround the cricket ground if Jayasuriya is allowed to play in tomorrow’s match.

Jayasuriya is slated to play in the final of the inaugural Puthiya Thalaimurai Chennai Super Sixes Corporate cricket tournament at Mayajaal sports complex along with other cricketing greats such as South African Lance Klusener, Vinod Kambli, Sunil Joshi, Nayan Mongia, Sanjay Bangar and Robin Singh.

It has been reported that the current SLC chairman of selectors, Aravinda de Silva will also play in the final stage of the tournament.

Founder and chair of ‘Naam Tamilar Iyakkam’, Indian film director Sebastian Seeman in a release states that while the Tamil people in Sri Lanka’s IDP camps are starving without food and proper provisions the government is allowing a Parliamentarian to play cricket in India.

Seeman stated that the Matara District MP will not be allowed to play as the Mayajaal ground is a state owned sports ground in Tamilnadu. He also demanded that the Indian government and the tournament organizers omit Sanath Jayasuriya from the match.

“If not we will surround the cricket ground and also the companies who sponsor the tournament” Indian media quoted the Tamil activist.

The tournament conducted by Ignitee Sports got underway at the Presidency Ground on January 19 while the final is to be held tomorrow (January 25) at Mayajaal sports complex.
