The Court of Appeal today (July 26) ordered Minister Rishad Bathiudeen to personally appear in court in order to answer allegations of intimidating the Mannar Magistrate.
The Minister was ordered by Appeals Court Judge Ranjith Silva to present himself at courts on September 5 to answer the charges leveled against him.
Lawyers engaged in a protest in front of the Hulftsdorp Court Complex yesterday (July 25) afternoon, against the intimidation of a magistrate and attack on Mannar court, demanding the immediate arrest of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen over the incidents.
The petition was filed against Minister Rishad Bathiudeen at the Court of Appeals, under the charges of threatening a judge and attacking a court, said senior attorney J.C. Weliamuna.
Courts across the country were paralysed on July 20 as judges and lawyers staged a boycott to protest the alleged political interference with the judiciary.
