Minister Wimal Weerawansa says that “organized violence” against Sri Lankan nationals in Tamil Nadu, cannot be carried out without the assistance of the Indian government.
The silence of India’s central government and its inaction over the incidents is a cause of regret for the Sri Lankan people, the National Freedom Front leader said.
If South India incites violence against Sri Lankans visiting, training defence personnel, playing sports and engaging in pilgrimage in the state, what will happen if the Sri Lankan public respond by behaving in the same manner, he inquired.
“If the people of the country incite violence in the same manner against Indians. What will happen?”
If the central government has a true intention to protect the friendship between India and Sri Lanka, it should take immediate steps to end these attacks on Sri Lankan nationals by “stupid” Tamil Nadu politicians, the Minister of Construction, Engineering, Housing and Common Amenities said.
Will Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa or the leaders of India’s central government take responsibility if Sri Lankans launch similar attacks on Indians, he questioned at a press briefing today.
