The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption says it will appoint a committee to amend the existing Bribery Act, in order to curb acts of bribery and corruption in the private sector as well.
The Bribery Act was enacted in 1954 only containing provisions relating to the investigation of bribery in the public service.
However, the commission points out that the act does not provide for the prevention and punishment of bribery and corruption in the private sector, which has seen a drastic increase recently.
