A meeting between Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Levan S. Dzhagaryan and Speaker of House Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has been held at the Parliamentary Complex.

During the meeting, the Ambassador invited the Speaker to undertake an official visit to Russia in 2027, on a mutually convenient date.

The invitation, extended by Valentina Matviyenko, the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation was formally handed over to the Speaker by the Ambassador.

The invitation is expected to play a significant role in further strengthening ties between the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

It was also noted that the proposed visit would contribute to advancing parliamentary dialogue between the two countries and further developing bilateral relations across a wide range of fields.

During the meeting, the sides had discussed further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Sri Lankan ties and particular attention was also paid to intensifying interparliamentary contacts, the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka said.
