The Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) has decided to expel the Opposition Leader of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC), Kandasamy Kamalendran, who was arrested in connection with the murder of the Delft Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman.

The Administrative Secretary of the EPDP has informed Kamalendran regarding the decision via a letter, dated January 29, sent through the Jaffna Prison administration.

The letter states that the decision was reached by the party’s Central Committee which met on January 16 after considering the evidence uncovered by police and information reported by media.

The Chairman of the Delft Pradeshiya Sabha, Daniel Rexian was shot and killed while his body was found on November 27 in his home in Punkudutivu.

The NPC Opposition Leader was arrested in suspicion over the murder while the motive was revealed to be an illegitimate relationship between Rexian’s wife and Kamalendran.
