Six persons including several UNP Parliamentarians who were issued notice after being charged with trespassing and assault at the defence training school of Sri Lanka Ports Authority in Slave Island, were released on personal bond.
Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered each of them released on personal bonds of Rs 1 million.
UNP MPs Ravi Karunanayake, Ajith P. Perera, Nalin Bandara and R. Yogarajan had visited the training school on a fact-finding mission, on information that the premises was being used for political activities.
However, this had resulted in a tense situation with representatives of Ports Authority trade unions filing a complaint with the Slave Island Police claiming that the MPs had unlawfully entered the property and carried out an assault.
The UNP MPs were issued notice to appear before the court today.
The defendants while rejecting the accusations of trespassing and assault, requested the court for their release on personal bonds instead of bail.
The case is to be taken up on December 08.
