The Primary Industries Minister of New Zealand, Nathan Guy, has departed on a trade mission to India and Sri Lanka today.
The minister is leading a delegation including New Zealand companies and industry, and the former Black Caps captain Stephen Fleming, who coaches India’s Chennai Super Kings cricket team.
Mr Guy said the six-day mission to Colombo, Delhi and Mumbai was connected to New Zealand’s co-hosting of the Cricket World Cup next year.
He said it would also promote New Zealand agricultural products, hi-tech services and hospitality.
Mr Guy and the New Zealand trade delegation will be meeting Indian and Sri Lankan ministers and business people.
He is taking representatives from 15 organisations including Fonterra, Pipfruit New Zealand and Alliance Meat Company.
“We’re taking a vast array of other New Zealand companies involved in tourism, IT and hospitality,” he says.
“There’s an opportunity to attract more tourists down here, but going the other direction there’s an opportunity for us to sell more of our products.”
