The main suspect in connection with the recent horrific murder of a family of four in the Wennappuwa area has been arrested, police said.

Police launched an investigation following the discovery of the bodies of four members of the same family which were recovered from a pit behind a coir factory in Nainamadama area in Wennappuwa on January 01.

The victims were identified as a dental surgeon attached to the Lunuwila hospital, her businessman husband, their 13-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter. They were reported missing since December 30, 2014.

Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that an individual who had served as a watcher at the coir factory, which is located behind the victims’ home, has been arrested in connection with the murders.

During interrogation, the suspect has confessed to committing the murders with help from his illicit lover, the police spokesman said, addressing a press conference today.
