State Minister Dilan Perera on Thursday (22) admired Sri Lanka’s leftist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) for maintaining a clear stance on the US-sponsored resolution that was adopted at the recently concluded UN Human Rights Council Sessions in Geneva.

State Minister Perera also went into say some leftist party leaders including Tissa Vitharana and D.E.W. Gunasekara try to spread rumors regarding the resolution in their bid to promote racism, however.

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo.

“We express our gratitude to the JVP for its support,” said Perera.

The State Minister pointed out the coalition government between the UNP and the UPFA was formed in order to address the issues of human rights violations in the face of international censure. “We saw this coming. That is why we wanted to form a coalition government. In the first place, the foreign community recommended an ‘international mechanism’, but, instead we can conduct a ‘domestic probe’ to investigate alleged war crimes now,” he added.
