Parliament police has prevented an attempt by MP Vadiwel Suresh to take a petrol can into the Parliament threatening to set himself on fire a short while ago on Saturday, Ada Derana Reporter said.
MP Vadiwel Suresh earlier yesterday demanded the Government to take immediate steps to increase the basic salary of estate employees.
He also went into say he would commit suicide inside the Parliament premises if the relevant authorities fail to address the issue with immediate effect.
Vadiwel Suresh also pointed out that the basic daily salary of the estate employees have not been increased since last March.
However, Labour Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne responding to this asserted that the proposed Rs. 2500 salary hike for private sector from next year will be extended to plantation workers as well.
