Laggala weapons theft: statements recorded from 20 cops

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recorded statements from 20 cops in connection with the theft of T-56 rifle and 5 revolvers from the Laggala police station.

 


Following a search carried out based information received, police officers however had found the firearms near a water tank in the premises of the Sandagala Viharaya in Wellewela, around 5km from the Laggala police station last Saturday.

 


Police suspect that the individuals who stole the guns had left them behind at the temple premises.  

 


A T56 rifle and 5 revolvers were stolen from the police station at around 1.00am on Thursday (14) by an individual who had opened the locked armory. However, no ammunition had been stolen by the suspect. Three police officers who were on duty at the Laggala police station at the time were interdicted.
