Speaking to the media at a press conference today, Leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa stated that a motion of no confidence has been submitted by the joint opposition against minister Ravi Karunanayake to prove his ineligibility to hold his post as Foreign minister.

MP Weerawansa stated that every citizen tricked by the deceptive hoax of ‘yahaoalanaya’ has had to suffer the wrath of ‘ditta dhamma vedaniya‘ karma through the corrupt practices carried out by the current government. He also stated that he sympathizes with the general public for not seeing the earnest effort of the previous government to stop this corrupt regime from coming into power.

He also stated that certain politicians who labeled members of the previous government as crooks and thieves are now being tried in public for fraud. He further stated that he was appalled with the responses Minister Ravi Karunanayake provided at the bond commission yesterday questioning if he had no real communication with his wife over serious matters. He also stated that the government cannot take the opposition or the public for fools to believe such childish responses as “my wife did it without my knowledge”

Weerawansa went on to question how a minister facing such pressing allegations can go on to represent Sri Lanka on a global stage without tarnishing the image of Sri Lanka on a global platform.

He further stated that not only the individual under investigation but several other high ranking officials of the government may be involved in large scale scams.

Weerawansa further stated that the allegations aimed at the previous regime pale in comparison to the allegations the current government is facing. He stated that currently, the government has cheated the Central bank and the country as a whole, opposed to the allegations of the previous government cheating on certain commissions and developmental projects.

He further went on to state that since the election of the new government, the country has fallen into shambles. He stated that the country is in crushing debt, Northern police officers are fearful of a resurgence of the LTTE terrorists and that no relief is provided to all the people affected by the severe droughts plaguing the country.

MP Weeramansa further stated that the country was poised to be industrious and develop but was robbed of that opportunity on January 8, 2015 by the ruse of ‘Yahapalanaya’ He urged the general populace to join with the joint opposition as they fight against the corrupt government to achieve progress yet again.

Weeramansa finally stated that under the purview and guidance of former president Mahinda Rajapakse, the joint opposition has submitted a motion of no confidence to the speakers office to prove the illegitimacy of Minister Ravi Karunanayake for the post of foreign minister. He urged the speaker of the house to set a date in parliament for the opposition to present their case at his earliest convenience.
