Kamer Nizamdeen speaks out after released on bail

Speaking exclusively to Ada Derana from Australia, Kamer Nizamdeen who was arrested on alleged terror plot charges in Australia, has expressed his gratitude to Sri Lankan public after being released on bail.

 

Sri Lankan PhD student Mohamed Kamer Nizamdeen, 25, arrested in August after a colleague found a notebook allegedly containing details of plans to kill Malcolm Turnbull and his former deputy Julie Bishop has been released on bail, after an expert found the sole piece of evidence couldn’t be connected to him.

 

“Hi, I am Kamer Nizamdeen. As you are all aware I’ve just been granted bail. I’m now a free man. Just like to express my thank yous to a certain few people. Thank you very much for the Sri Lanka High Commission in Australia in particular Mr. Skandakumar, consul general Mr. Lal Wickramatunge and Miss Pramuditha for all their help and standing by me”, stated Nizamdeen.

 

He says that he is thankful towards the Sri Lankan public and officers for standing by him and believing his innocence.

 

“Thank you very much for the Sri Lankan public and officers for standing by and for believing that I’m innocent, which I am. Thank you very much for the Sri Lankan public and for all the vigils which were organized”

 

Nizamdeen went on to express his gratitude Buddhist, Christian and Hindu clergy and Sri Lankan media.

 

“Thank you to the Buddhist and Christian and Hindu clergy. A big thank you to Sri Lankan media including Derana for publicizing factual and positive news”

 

“I have never been even more proud to be Sri Lankan after having seeing the immense support for me and believing that I’m innocent, which I indeed am. Thank you so much and God bless you all”, concluded Nizamdeen.
