Gambling at funeral house kills father of two

Five suspects, who were arrested for killing a man at a funeral house in Muruthahinna, Haldummulla, have been remanded until October 15th under the orders of the Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court.

 

Chaminda Kumara (40) alias Sisirakumara, a father of 2 from Hambantota, had engaged in gambling at the said funeral house, where he had won an amount of Rs 100. Sisirakumara had then got into an argument with a retired Sergeant Major, one of the suspects of the murder, which led to the retired officer slapping him.

 

Superintendent of Police Sudath Masingha says that another suspect had attempted to hit Sisirakumara, using a rod when Sisirakumara had pushed him away. This had resulted in injuries to the suspect’s face. The said suspect had the called in two of his brothers who work in Nikapotha three-wheeler park who arrived in 2 three-wheelers and assaulted Sisirakumara with rods.

 

Sisirakumara, sustaining fatal blows, had succumbed to injuries upon admittance to hospital.

 

Police have seized the clubs and rods suspected to be used for murder.

 

Judicial Medical Officer of the Badulla General Hospital Dr. Sandakan Waduge performed the post mortem at the Badulla General Hospital morgue, yesterday (02). In his report he has pointed out that the cause of the death is severe injuries to the brain and head from assaults comparable to an attack by a blunt force.
 
Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

 

Funeral of the deceased, who worked at the security section of the Hambantota branch of a business belonging to renowned company, will be held today (03) at the Hambantota public cemetery.
