The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered Onella Karunanayake, the daughter of former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, to appear before the court on Monday (12) with all relevant documents in order to provide a statement to the CID.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had sought to record a statement from Onella Karunanayake with regard to the investigation against her father for allegedly provide false evidence before the Bond Commission.

The attorney appearing on behalf of her informed the court today that his client had visited the CID on November 5 to give a statement, however she had turned back and left due to her attorneys not being allowed to accompany her into the CID office.

The CID then said that Onella Karunanayake had been notified to come provide a statement at 9.30 a.m. that day but she had arrived at the CID office at around 9.08 a.m. and had turned back and left. Therefore the CID was unable to record a statement from her, the court was told.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered Onella Karunanayake to appear before the court next Monday with all relevant documents in order to give her statement.
