As the country is gradually returning to normalcy, Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith appealed to the government to permit devotees to observe religious practices at places of worship under strict compliance to health guidelines and quarantine regulations.
The Cardinal made this request during the Sunday Mass service held at the St. Mary’s Church in Negombo this morning (07).
Speaking further, he said Catholic community supported the government during the lockdown period by at halting the conduct of Holy Mass and closing all churches across the country with the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.
“This request by no means constitute a special treatment towards us,” the Cardinal noted, requesting the government, health authorities and defence authorities to grant permission not only to the Catholic community but also to devotees of other faiths as well.
