With former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s controversial claim that the 2011 International Cricket World Cup was fixed, several former cricketers spoke out on the matter requesting the former Minister to provide evidence for his allegations.
In this context former Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman Thilanga Sumathipala made a statement at a press conference criticizing the former players’ objections.
He asked ‘why the players are worried about this statement if they have not engaged in match-fixing’ and that they ‘should not wear the hat if they have done nothing wrong’.
To which former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Mahela Jayawardena, who had been vocal on his objections to the match-fixing claim by Aluthgamage, replied with the following tweet:
“I am sorry next time we will check with him before reacting and wearing the hats since he has vast experience on the subject matter [Thumbs up]”
