MP Sanath Nishantha and Moratuwa Mayor granted bail

Three suspects including SLPP parliamentarian Sanath Nishantha and Moratuwa Mayor Samanlal Fernando have been granted bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court over the incidents of violence at Kollupitiya and Galle Face on May 09. 

 

Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered them released on two surety bails of Rs. 10 million each, Ada Derana reporter said. 

 

They had been arrested and remanded in connection with the attacks on peaceful protesters at ‘GotaGoGama’ in Galle Face and ‘MinaGoGama’ near Temple Trees on May 09.

 

Meanwhile another suspect arrested over the incident, Dan Priyasad was ordered to be further remanded until June 22 by the Fort Magistrate’s Court. 

 

The court also directed the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense to give explanations on the non-implementation of two recommendations made by the Attorney General to transfer Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon and to take disciplinary action against him.
