Four STF personnel injured following earthslip on expressway

At least four Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel, who were on duty at the expressway at the time, have been hospitalized owing to injuries sustained due to the earthslip near the 102km Post between Pinnaduwa and Imaduwa interchanges of the Southern Expressway, the RDA said.

Furthermore, the Director General of the Road Development Authority (RDA) stated that mounds of earth on both sides of the expressway near the 102nd kilometer post between Pinnaduwa and Imaduwa have collapsed onto the road in this manner.

Therefore, the residents living in the up-lying areas on both side of the expressway section where the earthslip has taken place are requested to evacuate immediately to safer locations due to risks of further earthslips and rock falls.

Earlier it was reported that the Southern Expressway had been blocked for vehicular movement due to an earthslip near the 102km Post between Pinnaduwa and Imaduwa interchanges.

Accordingly, the motorists entering the Southern Expressway from the direction of Galle are advised to exit from the Imaduwa interchange while motorists arriving from the direction of Colombo are requested to exit from Pinnaduwa interchange.
