Parliament to debate Second Reading of VAT (Amendment) and Finance bills today

The Second Reading debate of the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill is slated to be taken up for debate today (Dec.10), the Department of Communication of Parliament says.

 

Meanwhile, the second reading debate of the Finance Bill is also scheduled to take place today.

 

The debate is scheduled to be held from 09:30 a.m. to 04:30 p.m., as per a decision taken by the Committee on Parliamentary Business.

 

The decision was taken at a meeting held on November 20, under the chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

 

The last three days of the Committee Stage Debate of the budget is scheduled to be held from Monday (Dec.11) to Wednesday (Dec.13), while the division on the Third Reading (or Committee Stage) of the Appropriation Bill (Budget) for the financial year 2024 is scheduled to be held on December 13 at 06:00 p.m.
