Security has been strengthened at the Colombo National Hospital and surrounding areas following the admission of former head of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay for emergency treatment.
Police said personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and several units of the Special Task Force (STF) have been deployed inside the hospital and in nearby locations to ensure security and maintain order.
Suresh Sallay, who is in CID detention over allegations related to the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, was admitted to the hospital this evening after falling ill while in custody.
He had previously been held under detention orders at the CID since his arrest on February 25.
Meanwhile, allegations have emerged regarding his treatment in custody, including claims of inhumane treatment and a hunger strike. Police have denied these allegations, stating that no such mistreatment has occurred while he has been in custody.
