
A three-judge bench of the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar is scheduled to deliver its verdict on July 31 in the case against former IGP Pujith Jayasundara, who is accused of failing to act on intelligence warnings ahead of the Easter Sunday attacks, Ada Derana reporter said.
The case has been filed on charges including criminal negligence and failure to perform official duties, on the grounds that action was not taken to prevent the attack despite receiving intelligence information that a terrorist attack was expected on Easter Sunday.
The case was taken up today (12) before a three-judge permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar in Colombo, comprising Justices Priyantha Liyanage, Viraj Weerasuriya, and Thilakarathna Bandara, Ada Derana reporter said.
It was noted that oral and written submissions from all parties in the case have now been concluded.
After considering the submissions presented, the bench announced that the verdict in the case will be delivered on July 31, 2026.
Meanwhile, a separate case filed against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando in connection with the same allegations was also taken up today (12). Additional Solicitor General Sudarshana de Silva presented submissions on behalf of the prosecution.
Thereafter, defense counsel Chaminda Athukorala presented arguments on behalf of Hemasiri Fernando. The court further ordered that continuation of the defence submissions be postponed until June 15, 2026.
