Showers expected after 2pm in some areas today

Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts today (17), the Department of Meteorology stated.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 2:00 p.m., the Met. Department noted.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, Southern, Northern and North-central provinces and in the Trincomalee district.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
