The Court of Appeal today decided to conclude the proceedings of the writ petition filed by Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Waruna Jayasundara, after the Attorney General informed the court that no decision had been made to arrest him at this stage in connection with the investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
The writ petition filed by Jayasundara, seeking an order preventing his arrest in connection with the Easter attack investigations, was taken up today before a Court of Appeal bench comprising Justices Shashi Mahendran and Aditya Patabendige.
The court had previously directed the Attorney General to consider the possibility of transferring the petitioner, SDIG Waruna Jayasundara, to another area, said Ada Derana reporter.
Making submissions before the court, the Deputy Solicitor General informed the bench that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had submitted the relevant recommendations to the National Police Commission.
Accordingly, the bench ordered the suspension of further proceedings relating to the petition, after the Attorney General gave an undertaking to the court that no decision had been taken to arrest the petitioner at this stage.
