
Rohitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has left the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) after providing a statement regarding an investment he had made in two institutions located in Mirihana.
He had left the CCIB after recording a statement for nearly six hours, Ada Derana reporter said.
The investigation was launched following an anonymous complaint received by the Bribery Commission, alleging that Rajapaksa had invested a total of Rs. 19 million in two private institutions in Mirihana and Boralesgamuwa.
The complaint was subsequently referred to the Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the CCIB for further inquiries, under the supervision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Accordingly, Rajapaksa arrived at the CCIB at around 9.30 a.m. today (25) to record a statement regarding the investments.
Investigators had reportedly questioned him on the source of the Rs. 19 million in funds used to make the investments.
