West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first in the first Test against Sri Lanka of the two-match series at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
After the T20I and ODI leg, Sri Lanka and West Indies will lock horns in a two-match Test series, with both sides looking to shake off the rust, having not played red-ball cricket for a few months now.
The two sides last locked horns in Test cricket against one another in the year 2021, with Sri Lanka emerging victorious convincingly in both matches.
Sri Lanka also hold a superior record against the Caribbeans in Test cricket, winning 11 out of the 24 red-ball matches played.
With the series being part of the 2025-27 cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) too, it will be important especially for Sri Lanka.
Led by Dhananjaya de Silva, the Island nation are in the third spot in the latest WTC points table, albeit winning one and losing one after playing a couple of Tests.
Winning both Tests against the West Indies will give them a good chance of reaching the final. By contrast, Roston Chase and co. are languishing at the bottom of the table, losing seven out of eight Tests in the cycle so far and are likely out of the contention to reach the final.
