A digital guidance platform has been introduced to assist devotees travelling to Anuradhapura for the Poson pilgrimage, providing easy access to essential information and services during the festival.
The mobile application, developed by the Centre for Defence Research & Development in collaboration with ‘Manusath Derana’, offers details on vehicle parking facilities, dansal locations and other key services to help pilgrims navigate the sacred city with ease.
Meanwhile, the Public Health Inspectors' Association has announced that more than 18,000 dansals have been registered across the country ahead of the Poson festival.
The Secretary of the Association, Chamil Muthukuda said that by Friday (27), a total of 18,129 dansals had been registered island-wide.
Authorities have also made extensive arrangements for devotees visiting Anuradhapura. Meanwhile, the Poson Committee has appealed to pilgrims to dispose of waste responsibly and help keep the sacred area clean during the festival.
In support of the initiative, Manusath Derana, together with several partner organizations, has launched a programme to distribute waste disposal bags, enabling devotees to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste properly.
Public health officials are scheduled to inspect dansals operating on Monday (29) and Tuesday (30), while permanent and temporary food outlets within Poson zones will also be inspected throughout the Poson week to ensure compliance with health regulations.
Meanwhile, the Aruna newspaper's 2026 Poson Zone will be held with the historic Mulgirigala Raja Maha Viharaya.
