More than 18,000 Dansals have been registered across the island for the Poson Poya festival, according to the Public Health Inspectors' (PHI) Union.
The Association's Secretary, Chamil Muthukuda, said that 18,412 Dansals have been registered so far.
He noted that inspections of the Dansals scheduled to operate tomorrow (30) and the following day (01) will be carried out. Shops and temporary stalls located within Poson festival zones will also be inspected throughout Poson week.
The PHI Union has urged Dansals organisers to avoid using plastic when serving food and beverages.
It also warned that storing hot or cold food in polythene bags poses significant health risks and called on organisers to pay close attention to safe food handling practices.
The Union further requested organisers and the public to remain vigilant about the ongoing dengue outbreak.
It pointed out that plastic cups and other disposable items used to serve beverages are often discarded improperly, creating potential mosquito breeding sites. The PHI Union therefore urged all parties to ensure that all plastic waste is disposed of responsibly and in a proper manner.
