The Sri Lanka Customs Department has generated revenue of Rs. 1,373.7 billion during the elapsed period of this year.
Customs Media Spokesperson and Senior Director of Customs, Chandana Punchihewa, stated that this achievement has surpassed the revenue target set for the first six months of the year, ending June 30.
The projected revenue target for the Customs Department for the first half of the year was Rs. 1,060.5 billion. Accordingly, the Department exceeded this target by Rs. 313 billion.
The total revenue target assigned to the Customs Department for 2026 is Rs. 2,206 billion. The spokesperson expressed confidence that the record annual revenue of Rs. 2.5 trillion achieved last year could be surpassed this year, given the current trend.
The revenue target for July has been set at Rs. 192.4 billion, and the Department has already collected Rs. 31 billion within the first two days of the month.
However, Chandana Punchihewa further noted that a decline has been observed in revenue generated from the automobile sector due to restrictions imposed on motor vehicle imports.
