Supreme Court upholds Rs. 1 million compensation order against Wimal Weerawansa
The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal filed by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, upholding a previous court order directing him to pay Rs. 1 million in compensation to the General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva for violating his intellectual property rights.
The appeal was filed against a ruling issued by the Colombo Commercial High Court, which had found that certain content published in Weerawansa’s book, “Naththa Wenuwata Aththa,” had infringed upon Silva’s intellectual property rights.
With the dismissal of the appeal, the Supreme Court has affirmed the decision of the Commercial High Court, making the compensation order against the former minister stand.
