The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a three-month extension of the monthly housing rental allowance provided to homeowners who lost their houses due to landslides and floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah, last year.

The extension will allow affected families to continue living in temporary accommodation until permanent houses are constructed at suitable locations under the ongoing resettlement programme.

Accordingly, amendments have been made to Serial No. 04 of Budget Circular No. 08/2025 dated December 5, 2025. Under the revised provision, homeowners who lost their houses due to landslides and floods and have no alternative place to settle will receive a monthly rental allowance of Rs. 25,000 for a maximum period of nine months.

The Secretary to the Treasury, Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma issued the circular informing all Ministry Secretaries, Chief Secretaries of Provincial Councils, Heads of Departments, District Secretaries/Government Agents and Divisional Secretaries regarding the amendment.

All other provisions of Budget Circular No. 08/2025 will remain unchanged, the statement issued by the Ministry of Finance noted.
