The National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF) has urged beneficiaries of the Agrahara Insurance Scheme to update their personal information before the July 31 deadline for the ongoing data system update.

NITF Chairperson Dr. Vishaka Wanasinghe said beneficiaries should complete the process without delay to continue receiving benefits under the scheme.

She said around 900,000 serving and retired public and provincial public sector employees who are entitled to pensions are direct beneficiaries of the Agrahara Insurance Scheme. Including their family members, nearly three million people currently receive benefits under the programme.

The Agrahara data system update began in April 2026, with approximately 600,000 public sector employees having updated their information so far.

Dr. Wanasinghe said Agrahara members are attached to nearly 1,900 government institutions. She noted that those institutions had been requested in writing to appoint Agrahara coordinating officers and that the initiative had received a positive response.

She urged institutions that have yet to nominate coordinating officers to do so promptly, adding that all information entered into the system must be verified by the institution’s Agrahara coordinating officer and the head of the institution to ensure the accuracy of the database.

Dr. Wanasinghe further said the updated database would be used to facilitate the future disbursement of Agrahara Insurance Scheme benefits and called on all government institutions to extend their full cooperation to the programme.
