Iran's top joint military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has said Iran would not allow the United States to intervene in the management of the Strait of Hormuz.
Any attempt by the U.S. army to arrange transit through the strait outside the paths designated by Tehran and without coordination with Iran's armed forces would face strong resistance, it said in a video statement.
The statement comes after Trump said the U.S. would seize control of the strait and would be reimbursed by allies in the Gulf for guarding the waterway.
Addressing countries in the region, the Iranian military command said any cooperation with the U.S. would be considered an act of war against Iran.
It added that if the war widened to the whole region, the U.S. and its allies would be to blame.
Separately, in comments carried by state media, a spokesperson for Iran's Revolutionary Guards said Iran would "continue to assert our authority and control over the Strait of Hormuz with strength and power".
