The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an Amber Warm Weather Advisory for several parts of the country, effective September 1.
According to the advisory, the heat index is expected to reach the ‘Caution’ level in some areas of the Northern, North-Central and Eastern Provinces and the Monaragala District, during the daytime.
The general public has been advised to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities and seek shade whenever possible.
Authorities have also urged people to check on elderly and sick individuals, while warning against leaving children unattended inside vehicles.
Residents in the affected areas are also advised to take necessary precautions and remain alert to the prevailing weather conditions.
