The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds and rough seas in the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times, with strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph.
The wave height may increase to about 2.0 – 3.0 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota.
There is a possibility of seawater inundation over the near shore areas extending from Beruwala to Matara via Galle, it added.
The naval and fishing communities who are engaged in fishing and naval activities in the above sea areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
