The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has identified 104 violations during a special island-wide inspection campaign targeting lunch sheets and LDPE/LLDPE “shopping” bags.

Preliminary reports from CAA district offices indicate that the violations were recorded across 22 districts. Of the total, 43 cases involved lunch sheets, 58 involved “shopping” bags, while three other cases were related to plastic products.

Under Order No. 70 published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2151/58 dated November 29, 2019, lunch sheets must comply with specified labelling requirements. During the raids, stocks of lunch sheets that did not meet these requirements were found in several districts.

The CAA also said that, under Order No. 95 published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2456/41 dated October 1, 2025, LDPE/LLDPE bags cannot be provided to consumers free of charge.

Where such bags are sold, their prices must be clearly displayed at the point of sale, while the amount charged must be included on the customer’s bill.

The Authority said further investigations will be conducted along the supply chain, covering suppliers, distributors and manufacturers, and legal action will be taken where violations are established.

Items seized during the inspections will be produced before the relevant courts as part of the legal proceedings.

The CAA added that inspections and raids targeting lunch sheets and “shopping” bags will continue across the country.
