Newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer has emphasized the importance of foreign investment and trade in supporting Sri Lanka’s economic transformation, while welcoming the government’s efforts to maintain fiscal discipline and stabilize the economy.
Ambassador Meyer made the remarks during a meeting with Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha at the Ministry of Finance today (21).
The discussions focused on the role of foreign investment and international trade in helping Sri Lanka move beyond its current economic stability toward a more transformative phase of development.
Minister Jayantha said Sri Lanka had succeeded in stabilizing its economy following the economic crisis of 2022. He also highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen the economy and create conditions conducive to investment and growth.
The two sides exchanged views on measures to attract greater foreign investment and expand trade opportunities, with Ambassador Meyer agreeing to provide U.S. support for Sri Lanka’s efforts in these areas.
Meyer also expressed satisfaction with the government’s fiscal discipline and the measures being taken to strengthen economic stability and attract investment.
