Sri Lanka’s dengue death toll rises to 77 as cases exceed 99,000

The number of dengue-related deaths recorded in Sri Lanka so far this year has risen to 77. 

 

According to data from the National Dengue Control Unit, the total number of reported dengue cases currently stands at 99,634, with a case fatality rate of 0.077%.

 

Furthermore, 52.53% of the total cases, amounting to 52,340 patients, have been reported from the Western Province. 

 

At the district level, the highest number of cases has been recorded in the Gampaha District, with 21,136 cases. A further 19,569 cases have been reported from Colombo, 7,547 from Kandy, 6,339 from Kalutara, and 6,273 from Matara.

 

Meanwhile, the highest number of dengue cases was recorded in July, with 29,964 cases. In June, 21,533 cases were reported, followed by 10,155 cases in August. 

 

The number of cases reported so far in September stands at 4,144.
