Flood warnings withdrawn for several major river basins
The Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Irrigation Department has withdrawn the flood warnings previously issued for several major river basins.
The decision was taken as water levels in the respective river basins have returned to normal.
Accordingly, flood warnings have been lifted for the Mahaweli River, the Kuda Ganga sub-basin of the Kalu River, the Nilwala River, and the Gin River.
The Irrigation Department further stated that it is continuously monitoring rainfall across the island and fluctuations in river water levels.
It added that all necessary arrangements are in place to issue early warnings should the risk of flooding arise again.
