The Department of Meteorology says atmospheric conditions are becoming favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka from today (October 1).

According to the Department, showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island after 1 p.m., with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm possible in some areas.

The Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Eastern and North Central provinces, as well as Mannar District, are likely to experience relatively heavy rainfall.

The Department has advised the public to take adequate precautions against temporary, localised strong winds and lightning that may occur during thundershowers.

Misty conditions are also expected in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the early morning hours.
