
The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has seized an Indian fishing trawler and had apprehended nine Indian fishermen for engaging in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters, south of Delft Island, after crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
A large number of Indian fishing trawlers had trespassed into Sri Lankan waters South of Delft and were engaging in illegal fishing.
During the operation conducted last evening (03), one Indian fishing trawler was seized, while 09 Indian fishermen on board were taken into custody by SLNS Samudura, the Navy said.
The apprehended fishermen and the seized trawler were brought to Kankesanthurai (KKS) Harbour and will be handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DFAR) for further legal proceedings.
