Two Sri Lankans recognized for 2015 Queen’s Young Leaders Awards

Queen Elizabeth is to present the inaugural Queen’s Young Leaders Awards to two young people from Sri Lanka at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace June 22, the Government Information Department announced today.


Thejitha Saubhagya Edirisinghe and Kavindya Thennakoon are among 60 exceptional young people from across the Commonwealth who have been recognised by the Queen for taking the lead in transforming the lives of others and make a lasting difference in their communities.


Thejitha Saubhagya Edirisinghe, aged 26, has been recognised for his work around creating cohesive communities through culture, arts & languages.

 
19-year-old Kavindya Thennakoon has been recognised for her efforts in founding Without Borders, which aims to tackle the lack of quality education & employment.

 
Before receiving their Award at Buckingham Palace, the winners will meet UK Prime Minister, David Cameron at Downing Street, visit the headquarters of global social networking company, Twitter and meet with senior executives at the BBC World Service.
