Parliament likely to meet on Dec. 18 and 19 - Cabinet Spokesman

The government is hoping to convene Parliament on Thursday (18) and Friday (19), Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa noted.

 

Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing at the Department of Government Information today (16), Minister Jayatissa stated that during the upcoming sitting, the government is hoping to debate and approve the supplementary estimate presented to allocate funds for ongoing restoration work.

 

The government has set aside Rs. 72.2 billion through this year’s budget for rescue and relief operations in the month of December, the Minister stated.

 

The government has also decided to present a supplementary estimate amounting to Rs. 500 billion for disaster relief activities as well as restoration of infrastructure and housing units damaged by recent landslides and floods across the country.

 

Accordingly, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said they are hoping to present and approve the supplementary estimate at the upcoming parliament sessions.
