Jayantha Jayasuriya appointed new Attorney General

President’s Counsel Mr Jayantha Jayasuriya took oaths as the 29th Attorney General of Sri Lanka before President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s Official Residence today (February 11).

 

Attorney-at-Law, Mr Jayasuriya was the Senior Additional Solicitor General and his name was recommended by the Constitutional Council.

 

Secretary to the President, Mr P B Abeykoon and the members of Mr Jayasuriya’s family were present on this occasion, the President’s Media Division said. 

 

The Constitutional Council (CC) yesterday recommended the name of Jayantha Jayasuriya to the post of Attorney General. 

 

Jayasuriya has served in the AG’s Department for over 32 years. 

 

President Maithripala Sirisena appointed Suhada Gamalath, P.C, as Acting Attorney General of Sri Lanka with effect from the 11th of January 2016. 

 

Attorney General Yuvanjana Wijayatilake P.C, the 28th Attorney General of Sri Lanka retired from service with effect from 10th of January 2016.
