Heavy rainfall above 100 mm expected in parts of the island

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely at certain locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

A few showers are also expected in the Anuradhapura District, it said.

Strong winds of about 40–50 kmph may occur at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, as well as in the Northern and North-Central Provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

Fairly strong winds of about 30–40 kmph can be expected in other parts of the island.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
