A driver has been injured when a pine tree fell onto a three-wheeler in Halwatta on the Galaha–Kandy road, police said.
The incident occurred while the vehicle was transporting two schoolchildren from a school in Galaha to Kandy for medical treatment.
The three-wheeler sustained severe damage in the incident, while the driver was injured and admitted to the Deltota Regional Hospital for treatment.
The two students seated at the rear of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were discharged after receiving treatment.
Police said the area contains a significant number of decayed and dead pine trees, posing a risk to motorists, and urged drivers to exercise caution when travelling along the route.
They also noted a similar incident in February in the same area, where a bus belonging to the Kandy South Depot of the Sri Lanka Transport Board was struck by a falling tree, resulting in one death and damage to the vehicle.
Galaha Police Traffic Division is conducting further investigations into the incident.
