
A pedestrian has been killed in a road accident near the Kadawatha bus stand, Police said.
The accident had occurred when a bus entering the Kadawatha bus stand struck a pedestrian. The victim, a 49-year-old resident of Ragama, had sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Ragama Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The bus driver has been arrested, and the Kadawatha Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus belonging to the Ampara Depot has crashed in Wellampitiya at around 5.30 a.m. today (24).
It is reported that the accident had occurred after the driver suffered a sudden heart attack, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The bus was operating from Colombo Fort to Ampara when it veered off course and crashed near the Ambagaha Junction area in Wellampitiya.
The bus had sustained extensive damage in the accident. The driver was rushed to hospital but later had succumbed, hospital sources said.
Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Wellampitiya Police.
