The number of dengue-related deaths confirmed in Sri Lanka in 2026 has increased to 35, the National Dengue Control Unit has confirmed.

 

Meanwhile, the number of dengue cases reported in the first half of this year has surged past 56,000, following the confirmation of more than 1,000 cases in the past 24 hours.

 

According to the latest update issued by the National Dengue Control Unit, a total of 55,422 dengue cases have been reported so far this year.

 

The Acting Director of the Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara said that 1,025 new dengue cases were reported within the past 24 hours alone, indicating a continued rise in infections across the country.

 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media established a Dengue Operations Centre to expedite the reporting of information and complaints related to dengue prevention and control.

 

As part of the initiative, a dedicated hotline was introduced for the public to obtain information and assistance regarding dengue.

 

Accordingly, the public will be able to access information through the 0117 966366 hotline number.

 

The Health Ministry has also urged the general public to use the number to report dengue-related concerns, submit complaints and seek information on prevention measures.

 

It further stressed that public participation is essential in controlling the spread of dengue.
