
It has been decided to conduct the final rites of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne with full police honors.
Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler, stated that the late former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne would be accorded the standard police honors customarily granted to a retired IGP upon their passing.
Accordingly, the final rites of former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne are scheduled to be held on July 20 with full police honors.
The remains of former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne are currently lying at a private funeral parlor in Colombo, where members of the public will be able to pay their final respects from tomorrow (July 19).
C.D. Wickramaratne, who served as the country's 35th Inspector General of Police, passed away last morning (July 17) from a gunshot wound sustained at his residence.
Police suspect that his death was a suicide and believe he used the firearm assigned to his security officer.
An open verdict was returned following the post-mortem examination conducted on the body of C.D. Wickramaratne.
The Judicial Medical Officer of the Colombo East Base Hospital delivered the verdict and stated that samples from the body had been sent to the Government Analyst for further examination.
Meanwhile, the Western Province South Range Crime Division and the Malabe Police are conducting investigations into the incident. Police also stated that the firearm allegedly used by the former IGP has been forwarded to the Government Analyst for forensic examination.
The Western Province South Range Crime Division further stated that, as part of the ongoing investigation, statements have been recorded from his wife and three security officers.
